NGDS Club Website The club’s website is back up and running! A big thanks to Dave and Donna and their son Steven. New Multiform Cultivars There is a new multiform classification: Polytepals can now only be entered in Section 5. This change has More information can be found on the AHS website. http://www.daylilies.org/MultiformClassificationCodeInfo.pdf
Gainesville Spring Expo Sale The club’s biggest fundraiser is coming up FRIDAY & SATURDAY at the Chicopee Ag Center. (Setup is THURSDAY at 11 am). President Joe Hulsey is asking that members donate cleaned and tagged (with name & color) FRESH daylilies for the sale in double-fan divisions. Also accepted are unnamed daylilies or seedlings… just put the color on the tag. Other plants/flowers are also accepted. Volunteers are also needed to work blocks of time during the sale and we need people there for setup. Please contact Joe Hulsey at 706-864-1319 to sign up to work.
Membership Awards Program Please see the insert in this newsletter about the Membership Awards Program for more detailed information explaining the rules and the program. Members voted to begin the MAP with the April 6th meeting. Points/Dollars will begin accruing now for members. One important point that President Joe Hulsey wants to stress is that it is up to each member as an individual to make sure that their points are credited. This means that at each club meeting and event there will be a sign in sheet for all members to sign in. If you attend a National or Regional event or donate flowers for a sale or participate in another activity that doesn’t have a sign in sheet, then you need to be present at the next meeting and write on the sign in sheet your activity so that your points will be credited. If you are unable to attend that following meeting then please contact Lynn McAllum because points will not be credited after that following meeting.
2008 April Meeting Minutes North Georgia Daylily Society Meeting Minutes for April 6, 2008
The meeting was called to order by President Joe Hulsey at 2:40 pm after refreshments and fellowship. Joe announced to members that Luther Beck, show chairman, was sick and wasn’t able to attend the meeting but that all is on schedule with the show plans. Joe showed members the new show schedule and reminded them that there were some changes (new multi-form class). George Brush spoke to members on the Membership Awards Program that he, Lynn McAllum, and Ron Brechter collaborated on. George explained the rules and the point system. (A copy of this is included in this newsletter). A motion was made, seconded, and voted on to begin this award system in the club. The program will begin with this April 6th meeting. Joe stated that all points are equal to dollars that you can earn to use as money towards purchasing auction or sale plants. A master copy of member points will be kept up with by Lynn McAllum, Club Secretary. Joe stated to members that it is the individual member’s responsibility to see that their points are credited. The way this will work is that each club meeting and activity will have a sign-in sheet. Members must sign in to receive their points. If they get points by attending a Regional or National activity then it is up to that member to either call or email Lynn or write the activity on the next meeting’s sign in sheet in order to collect the points. If the member does not report their points by the following meeting after the activity, then the points are lost.
Pam Manley, Treasurer, gave the club’s balance as $7086.64. This is in addition to the club’s CD.
Ernest Seckinger announced that Young Harris College has a memorial daylily garden for Jessie Seckinger.
Joe discussed the Hall Co. Master Gardeners Expo Sale. Setup is this Thursday at 11 am. The sale is Friday and Saturday. Volunteers are needed to work at the sale. There will be a $5 table and a connoisseur table with more expensive daylilies. All members are asked to donate some daylilies. Joe is asking for at least 1500 double-fan divisions. Vice Pres. Perry McAllum asked members for suggestions or leads on future programs. He stated that he has run into many dead ends trying to find speakers.
After the business meeting, Barbie Colvin presented a program called Big, Bold, and Bodacious Plants…Jurrassic Park Gardening. Many door prizes were given away. The meeting adjourned at 4:40 pm.
